Hypnodoula training
When Opokua asked me to be a part of her Hypnodoula training together with her sister Asabea I really wanted to say yes. But it fell on the same weekend I was on call for a home birth, so I had to think a bit (and ask my friend who’s birth it was) if it was okay. I booked the train so I would be out of Malmö for only 25 hours and took the night train (spoiler, I made it back just in time to be present at the birth).
I arrived a little before 06 in Stockholm and walked around a very calm Stockholm C for a bit before I grabbed a hot chocolate and sat down reading my book. I took the subway to Söder and Hälsans Hus where Opo had her training. I could hear her voice through the door as I waited for Asabea to arrive.
I’ve known Asabea and Opokua for years now, we have had countless exchanges over instagram. That’s where I first found Asabea, back when I had a hair blog. And Opokua used to have a company that sold natural products, she did a takeover on my instagram back in the day. But I haven’t worked with them, so this was a first.
The door opened and we were met by Opo and Anneli with big smiles and hugs. And a room filled with people. You could feel the anticipation in the air. I forget that Asabea is kind of a celeb and people get a bit starstruck by seeing her, but I saw it in some of the people’s eyes.
The day was amazing! Asabea and I worked well together, we balanced each other out with knowledge and focus. And the group was so engaged, asked lots of questions, shared lots of thoughts and experiences.
After that day I have gotten several messages thanking me for the presentation saying they learned a lot. This was of course the goal.
On the other days Opokua had invited Emilia Bergmark-Jimenez, photographer and Doula, and Fredrik Doula who focuses on the queer community.
So now, thanks to Opokua there’s a gang of new Doulas around! Check out Opo’s IG to see if any of them are in you area.
And rumour has it another Hypnodoula training will be held this spring, keep you eyes on Opokua’s IG and website to find out more! Hope to see you there!
