Hi, I’m Nandi.

Doula - Midwife

My interest in pregnancy and birth began during my first pregnancy in 2005 when I binge read pregnancy books. And the dream of becoming a midwife was born. During my studies to become a nurse I decided I wanted to become a doula until I could fulfill my midwifery dreams. So in 2009 I did my doula training which I loved. To be a part of a family welcoming a new family member is something very special.

Since then I have had a total of three children with three very different birth experiences.

As I love learning new things I've added some skills over the years. I'm trained in Aktiv Baby, which is a technique I used myself during my third pregnancy. And I have learned acupressure in the ear as well as on points of the body.

After graduating from midwifery school in 2021 I still felt something was missing in my tool kit, so that same year I became a Hypnobirthing educator (the Mongan Method). Hypnobirthing is an approach that I love and can really relate to, as I know how beneficial breath and relaxation is during pregnancy and birth. Teaching Hypnobirthing lets me be a part of a family’s journey in to parenthood through educating and empowering them in a holistic way.

In 2022 I was fortunate to attend a workshop with partera Angelina Martinez Miranda (traditional midwife from Mexico) who shared her wealth of knowledge with us including how to use a Rebozo during pregnancy and birth, as well as how rituals can be incorporated during this time.

I have also completed Rachel Reed's online course Reclaiming Child Birth as a Rite of Passage. This course has solidified what is important to me when it comes to supporting people through pregnancy and birth. I wish this course was mandatory for all birth workers as it contains so much valuable knowledge.

At the end of 2022 I joined the home birth midwife team Föda i Skåne and started attending home births. This has been a long time dream of mine, and it expands my knowledge as a midwife.

As I now attend home births I generally say no to doula clients, but I will make exceptions in some cases if there is space in my schedule to do so.

I'm fluent in Swedish, English and German and can offer services in these three languages. Based in Malmö, Sweden and offer services in Malmö as well as online.

Doula? Midwife?

Sometimes people get confused about what the difference between a doula and a midwife is. Below you will find short explanations of the two.

Doula

A trained person that supports the birthing person and their partner through pregnancy, birth and post partum. A doula is not a health care professional. Anyone can attend doula training.

In Sweden most doulas are trained though ODIS.

Midwife

A licensed health care professional that is medically responsible for the pregnant person during pregnancy, birth and post partum.

In Sweden a midwife has to be a nurse before he or she can continue their education to become a midwife.

Training

DOULA

In 2009 attended my doula training taught by Xana De Silva and got my certificate.

Doula training covers normal pregnancy and birth as well as how to support the pregnant person and potential partner during pregnancy, birth and post partum.

AKTIV BABY & ACUPRESSURE

In 2020 attended both the Aktiv Baby training and the Acupressure course held by Xana De Silva.

Aktiv Baby consists of knowledge of the body and exercises to create an optimal position fot the baby in the birthers body. The exercises are used during pregnancy and birth.

Acupressure uses the same points as acupunture, but instead of needles pressure is applied to the points to stimulate these.

HYPNOBIRTHING

In 2021 I did my Hypnobirthing (the Mongan Method) training taught by Samantha Rose.

Hypnobirthing is founded in the belief that the body and baby knows what to do during birth. Through using the deep relaxation of hypnosis the birther can have a calm birth. This is achieved through practice and good support through pregnancy and birth.

SPINNING BABIES

In 2023 I attended a Spinning Babies workshop held by Rachel Shapiro. Spinning Babies is a physiological to preparing for and caring for birth. With specific activities that restore the body's balande and make room for the baby. These activities can be used during pregnancy as well as during birth.
